When you’re on the receiving end of an unsettling diagnosis, you’re likely to have questions ...
“How did I get this condition?”
“What are my options for treating it?”
“Where do I find a doctor who can help me beat it?”
When you choose an academic medical practice, you have a whole team of experts to help you answer those questions. SLUCare general surgeons are key members of that team.
SLUCare surgeons offer advanced care for complex patients, including those diagnosed with cancer. Our doctors evaluate each case individually and collaborate with other specialists to determine to whether surgery will produce the best possible outcome. By consulting a surgeon early in the process, you may be able to treat the disease in its early stages and may even prevent the need for other therapies, such as chemotherapy or radiation.
SLUCare surgeons use the latest techniques, including minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery, to minimize pain and help patients recover as quickly as possible.
Conditions We Treat
Small bowel cancer
From hernia repair to treatment of abdominal cancers, our team provides a wide range of gastrointestinal surgeries. We work closely with SLUCare gastroenterologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists to tailor a treatment plan to your unique needs. Gastrointestinal surgeons include Dr. Eddy Hsueh, Dr. Jason Keune, Dr. Carrie Luu, Dr. Grace Montenegro, and Dr. Scott Wong.
Dr. Eddy Hsueh and Dr. Carrie Luu are experienced surgeons offering treatment of complex bile duct, gallbladder, liver, and pancreatic cancers. They use advanced technologies, such as microwave ablation, in addition to surgery for treatment of liver metastasis from colon cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, and more.
This intensive surgery for complex abdominal cancers requires a highly focused team of nurses, pharmacists, anesthesiologists, and critical care specialists, led by a specially trained surgical oncologist. In St. Louis, SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital has the longest running HIPEC program, currently under the leadership of Dr. Carrie Luu.
